G83 Problem Using Right Angle Head (Picture and Video)

My problem is with R on the G83 line if I use anything except R0.0 the machine will G00 to depth then G01 out the opposite of what is suppose to happen. This is a 300 with the Matrix control.

Why do you have an R-90 in the following line?

G68.5X0. Y0. Z0.I0.J1.K0.R-90.

You are telling the machine that "-Z" is now up. Is that what you want? The "R" value in drilling cycles is an incremental move from your current position, not a retract plane.

If you get a chance try this:
...
G68.5X0. Y0. Z0.I0.J1.K0.R0.
G00 X2.0 Z-3.0
G00 X-1.19 Y0.7
G83 Z-4.355 R1.15. Q1. F20.
X-3.49
Y-0.7
X-1.19
...

This should position the tool at Z-3.0. When the machine reads the first G83 line it should rapid, incrementally, 1.15 to a position of Z-4.15. The it should feed to Z-4.355 followed by rapiding back to Z-3.0.

Let me know if it works.

R-90 is there because we have a right angle head mounted to the spindle face. I will post a picture later today. We need to mill a pocket and tap holes inside a bore.

OK that makes sense. I would like to see a picture of that, never seem a right angle head on on integrex. The code I posted should work as descibed with the G68.5X0. Y0. Z0.I0.J1.K0.R-90. line.

The black part on the end is from a Bridgeport mill and we made the rest it will only hold 3/16 shanks so all of the tools had to be modified to fit and we ran it a 3000rpm. There is a KM63 ER25 collet holder clamped in the spindle. It will not go through the tool changer and must be indicated for each part. We had to use 4 tools to Mill two pockets, spot drill, drill and tap 8 holes. We defined the tool 4 times each with a different letter A, B, C, D. I have a video I will upload tonight of it spot drilling the 4 holes.

This is how the tools were programed to pickup the offset for each tool.

T022.4(D) Tap

As John pointed out, because of G0 Z-4.15 line, any meaningful R distance should be smaller than (4.355 - 4.15) to have a meaningful drill cycle operation.

I was helping Shovelhead make this part. He did not try your suggestion. The video above is of the code at the top of this thread. He only had to make 2 parts and they were hot, but this customer sends us jobs in small lots about once a month so we will be seeing this part again soon. I am not sure if it would have worked though. What you are saying makes sense and as dacar points out 4.355 - 4.15=.205 but I thought we tried less than .2 and it G00 to the drill depth and G01 out as I explained in my first post. I will let you guys know. I may be making these next time.
