Not sure if there is a parameter that can be set to enable or disable that, but on our machine with matrix, we can't change actual diameter while in auto mode.

No, this can be done. But here may be the differences.

I have found that if you have an ACT-Ø specified the tool will auto-compensate it based on what you have put in for this tool when if goes to make (in my case) an arc move. This is obviously bad because even if I am not running with cutter comp it will comp the tool.

I use Gcode only. I have not, and do not forsee any use for Mazatrol where I currently am. I am not sure if it would react the same way with Mazatrol (is that what you use?) as with Gcode...

I think you're screwed in Mazatrol Rod. Changing the tool diameter requires updating the tool data, and that is treated like updating the program currently running. Mazatrol won't allow it. You can shift tool wear values even if the tool is running since it only uses the data at the head of the unit and doesn't change a definition, but then you know that.

Is it warming up in Surrey yet?
